Carry-on Baggage

AWA only allows one piece of cabin baggage (56 x 45 x 25cm) plus one smaller personal-type item such as small handbags for men/women, small cameras, reading material, laptop bags and small backpacks onboard the aircraft. It should weigh no more than 5kg and be able to fit under the seat in front of you. It is recommended travelling with soft-side bags so that they can be made to fit in the overhead bin and under the seat in front of you.

Cabin bags that do not fit in the overhead bin or under the seats will be placed in the hold of the aircraft and will be handed over to passengers upon disembarkation.

Excess Baggage

Any additional kilogram exceeding our free baggage* allowance of 23kg (capped at a maximum of two pieces):

  1. On the Domestic routes cost GHS12.00 per kilogram.
  2. Accra – Lagos route costs USD4.00 per kilogram.
  3. Accra – Abuja routes cost USD5.00 per kilogram.

Please note: Rates are subject to change without prior notice.

*Free baggage allowance is 23kg per passenger. This total should not exceed two bags per passenger.

Terms and Conditions for Excess Baggage:
1. Is subject to availability at the time of request;
2. May be restricted due to operational and safety reasons
3. Is subject to the Africa World Airlines General Conditions of Carriage for passengers and baggage
4. Is non-endorsable and non-transferable between passengers

On health and safety grounds, every piece of hold baggage shall weigh no more than 32 kg.

Baggage Handling

We try to ensure that baggages you entrust into our care are safely and returned to you at your destination. However, if your baggage is delayed or lost beyond our control, you will be asked to complete a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) from which you will be issued a reference number (used to inquire about your property). If your bag is lost in transit, we apologize for the inconvenience and ask that you notify our AWA agent, complete a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) to receive a file reference so we can try to locate your baggage.

Sports Equipments

AWA accepts sporting equipment for free subject to availability of space during check-in. During booking of flight, passengers MUST inform our agents of their wish to travel with sporting equipment.
Types of Equipment Acceptable

  2. Basic Fishing Logistics
  3. Golf Kit
  4. Hockey Kit
  5. Surfboard

Packaging of Sports Equipment
All equipment must be suitably packaged in a rigid and/or hard shell container specifically designed for shipping. AWA has the right to refuse any equipment which is deemed unsafe or not properly packaged

interline baggage

Interline Baggage procedure

Passengers connecting from AWA to other international partners MAY be required to pay excess baggage fees depending on the weight indicated on your ticket by the international carrier.

Onward Connections

Our connecting passengers, coming from a regional/domestic point on AWA and continuing to an international/ regional destination with AWA, whose flight routes are arranged with a single ticket, should take note of the following:

  • Ensure you have the appropriate visa/ documentation for your final destination.
  • Disembark from the aircraft with your cabin baggage only.
  • Ground staff would assist you to the transit lounge.
  • Checked-in bag would be received on arrival at your final destination.
