Michael Cheng Luo

Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Cheng Luo was re-appointed as the CEO of AWA on 3rd July, 2019. Prior to his appointment he was the Chief Executive Officer of Hong Kong Express. He was the 2nd CEO of AWA from May 2013 to January, 2017. It is worth noting that he has been the Co-Chairman of the board of AWA since 2013.

He was also used to be a board member of Comair in Johannesburg and the Board Chairman of Yangtze River Express in Shanghai. He has 29 years of aviation experience and holds a BSc (Hons) Degree in Aeronautical Engineering.

Sean Mendis

Chief Operations Officer

Sean Mendis specializes in successfully conceiving, developing and executing start-up aviation projects in challenging conditions. With a history of three start-up airlines launched since 2005, numerous stations opened and new routes pioneered, a Jet A-1 fuel facility commissioned, and dozens of other smaller projects, his track record speaks for itself. Sean was part of the launch management team of Ghana International Airlines and served in a management role there 2005 till 2010.

He then co-wrote, fund-raised and implemented the $50 million business plan for Africa World Airlines in partnership with Hainan Airlines of China. He led the certification team as the Chief Operations Officer and successfully oversaw the safe launch of flight operations in 2012.

The following year, he moved to Somalia to manage Mogadishu’s Aden Abdulle International Airport for SKA International Group under contract from the Government of Somalia. In 2014, he moved to the UAE to successfully launch a new station for SKA’s aviation business, including a state of the art jet fuel facility in Ras Al Khaimah. In 2015, he oversaw SKA’s licensing by the UAE GCAA to take over all cargo handling operations at Ras Al Khaimah International Airport.
In 2016, he was the Accountable Manager with Uganda CAA for SKA’s new Air Operator Certificate based in Entebbe. In 2017, he relocated his base to Malawi for family reasons, while continuing to be involved with SKA’s aviation businesses in Africa and the Middle East on a part-time basis.

In 2018, Sean returned to Ghana as Chief Operations Officer of Africa World Airlines to guide the airline through its next stage of growth and route expansion.

Feng Wei

Chief Finance Officer

Capt. Kwasi Oteng

Chief Safety Officer

Capt. Kwesi Oteng joined Africa World Airlines during the Airlines start-up phase in 2011 as one of the first Management Staff of the Airline, being the Director of Flight Operations and Chief Pilot. A graduate of Mfantsipim Secondary School and the University of London College, he obtained his commercial pilots license from Toronto Airways in Canada.

He later joined Ghana Airways Ltd as a First Officer and progressed steadily to the rank of Captain and eventually Type Rating Instructor and Examiner (TRI/E). Aircraft types flown in Ghana Airways include Fokker 28 Douglas DC9 and DC10. He was part of the management team of the flight operations department as Fleet Captain DC9 and crew scheduling manager.
Following the closure of Ghana Airways, he was employed at Saudi Arabian Airlines as Captain Embraer 170 and later upgraded to Airbus 320/1. He then left Saudia in 2012 in order to join the start-up team at AWA as Director of Flight Operations / Chief Pilot. He was most instrumental in setting up the Flight Operations Department and training all the Airlines Pilots.

Having served briefly as AWA’s Chief Operations Officer in 2014, he was later appointed Chief Safety Officer in 2016. He continues to train AWA Pilots as a GCAA designated Check Airman and (TRI/E) EMB145. His oversight as CSO covers Corporate Safety and Security and has successfully combined this role with regular flight duties.
